Where Healing Begins and Children Discover Their Strength

At Free Rein Therapeutic Riding, Inc., we believe every child deserves the opportunity to grow, heal, and thrive — regardless of financial barriers.

We serve children and young adults with special needs and their families across Maryland and Virginia by providing equine-facilitated therapy and educational programs that nurture physical development, emotional growth, and confidence.

Through meaningful partnerships between children and horses, we create a space where possibility replaces limitation.

For many children, traditional therapy can feel clinical or overwhelming. With equine-assisted therapy, children are motivated, engaged, and empowered — often achieving breakthroughs in ways that feel natural and joyful.

WHY HORSES?

Horses provide more than movement — they provide connection.

The rhythmic motion of the horse supports:

  • Core strength and balance

  • Coordination and posture

  • Sensory integration

  • Emotional regulation

  • Confidence and independence

WHY WE EXIST?

  • To make therapy accessible for all children, regardless of financial barriers

  • To provide a safe, supportive, and joyful environment for growth

  • To partner with families, schools, and healthcare providers in our community

OUR MISSION

  • To serve children and their families by facilitating physical and emotional development, growth, and healing through equine partnerships.

IMPACT

  • Building confidence, resilience, and strength—one ride at a time.

Equine-Assisted Therapy (Hippotherapy)

Hippotherapy is not simply riding — it is a medically recognized therapy strategy where the horse’s movement is intentionally used to achieve functional goals tailored to each child. Our mission is to make this powerful intervention accessible to families who may otherwise face financial or insurance barriers.

Why Nonprofit Matters?

The reality is that therapy is often out of reach.

Insurance limitations, high out-of-pocket costs, long waitlists, and limited providers create barriers for families who desperately want support for their children.

As a nonprofit, we:

  • Provide sponsored therapy sessions

  • Offer financial assistance

  • Seek donors to support individual children

  • Create access where access does not exist

Because no child should miss the opportunity to grow due to finances.
